Danfeng Gate is the south gate of Tang Daming Palace. The magnificent Danfeng Tower is erected on the Gate, facing Hanyuan Hall in the north. After the completion of Danfeng Gate conservation and display project, Danfeng Gate will be the landmark building at the entrance of the Tang Daming Palace Heritage Park. Since its founding, IICC-X has committed itself to conservation of Daming Palace by assigning staff regularly to monitor the conservation status of the site and organizing for many times the national and international experts to analyze and study an array of potential problems in conserving Daming Palace. In October 2007, IICC-X set up the special study group to carry out the preliminary survey and investigation on the site conservation of Danfeng Gate, having collected considerable fundamental data. With the launch of Danfeng Gate conservation and display project , I ICC-X put forward the conservation solution and guided the implementation of the provisional conservation measures, which should be adopted during the construction of Danfeng Gate conservation and
display project, considering the provisional conservation measures designed according to the related planning of the conservation of Danfeng Gate at Daming Place. In January 2009, IICC-X did a scientific analysis of the soil sample from the site of Danfeng Gate during the implementat ion of the prov i s ional conservation solution and surveyed the similar earthen sites in the region of Xi’ an. On the basis of analyses and surveys, the initial
solution of Danfeng Gate conservation and display project was drafted and was presented to the related experts by Guo Zhan, Director of IICC-X, in his trip to Beijing. After integrating the suggestions from the experts in archaeology, cultural heritage conservation and architecture planning, IICC-X developed the current solution on Danfeng Gate conservation and display project. At the beginning of December 2009, IICC-X sponsored an evaluation meeting. On the meeting, Sun Manli, the chair researcher of IICC-X, did a detailed presentation of the solution. The final solution will be reached after the meeting and will be submitted to SACH soon.
